CRUISE ENTERTAINMENT
Several past comments at Prow’s Edge have scoffed at the poor quality of entertainment aboard cruise ships today. A standard quip is that if you can’t make it on Broadway, the cruise lines will take you.
That’s a little cynical and somewhat unfair.
Depending on the cruise line you sail with, entertainment aboard cruise ships today has in fact become much more sophisticated and choices of the type of entertainment on offer is much wider than before.
Contemporary cruise lines now offer everything from complete Broadway shows to nightly presentations inspired by today's popular theatre hits that pay tribute to show biz greats and musical eras.
Premium cruise lines feature celebrity performers and leading popular musicians on selected sailings while many cruise companies invite local and regional folkloric troupes on board for performances that are designed to enhance the destination experience.
The luxury and boutique cruise lines offer another step up the ladder with stars of classical music as well as the “easy listening” alternatives.
All of the onboard theatres today boast state-of-the-art sound and lighting equipment.
Basically, performances run the gamut, and guests can enjoy numbers from their favorite shows, from classics to contemporary favorites.
If entertainment is important to you, be sure to read the brochures and study the web sites carefully, to make sure you won’t be disappointed in what is on offer.
Many ships also feature smaller lounges and showrooms where cruisers can enjoy cabaret singers, classical quartets and piano recitals. And those guests looking to express their own star qualities will find dedicated karaoke clubs and facilities on some ships.
