Port Canaveral Cruises Into The Future
Four of the world's largest and best cruise ships have chosen Port Canaveral as their new home!
Considering Port Canaveral has earned the title as the world's second busiest port, it's no wonder they have been chosed by four of the world's largest and best cruise companies as their port of call.
Royal Caribbean's International Freedom of the Seas, which arrrives May 4, 2009 is the first Freedom-class vessel to ever arrive at Port Canaveral. Freedom of the Sea will offer unhurried seven-day sails and a chance to re-learn the meaning of play with her surf simulator, radical water park, boxing ring, ice-skating rink and more.
Later this year, Carnival Cruise Lines will dock the Carnival Dream in December. The Carnival Dream is the first vessel ever to unveil the sleek Dream-class hull design. , Among many amazing features, she will boast more outdoor deck space, more stateroom categories, the largest spa we've ever built, Carnival Waterworks and a new indoor/outdoor entertainment complex called Ocean Plaza.
Not to be outdone, Disney will introduce not one, but two new ships to their present line-up at the port. Famed for reaching beyond today's creative limits to invent the world of tomorrow, Disney Cruise Line's two next-generation ships will arrive at Port Canaveral in 2011 and 2012, filled with fresh adventures and amenities.
These newest 122,000 ton ships will be 2 decks taller than the Disney Magic and Disney Wonder and will have 1,250 staterooms each and will be able to transport 4,000 passengers each.
Even though the ships have not yet been named, Disney Cruise Line has negotiated with the Port Canaveral port authority and has extended their contract for 15 more years, through 2022 at least. As part of this contract the port authority will expand and upgrade the dock in order to accommodate the new ships (both of which will be home-ported there) and the terminal will be enlarged to accommodate more passengers and luggage and finally a parking garage will be built and completed by 2011.
