The Mississippi Gulf Coast, anchored by Gulfport and Biloxi, overlooks the Gulf of Mexico and 26 miles of scenic coastal beaches. Here there are world-class golf courses and championship fishing, artistic and historical museums, and casino resorts. Its hospitality is as warm as its gumbo.
Gulfport, a popular port-of-call for cruise liners, is the point of departure for even more cruises to Ship Island. It is part of Gulf Islands National Seashore and the location of historic Fort Massachusetts which precedes the Civil War. There are performing dolphins and sea lions at the Marine Life Oceanarium, and the Lynn Meadows Discovery Center for children.
BIloxi is a year-round resort and a major fishing center. Attractions include Beauvoir, the last home of Confederate President Jefferson Davis, the Ohr-O’Keefe Museum of Art, Beloxi Shrimping Trip, the J.L. Scott Marine Education Center/Aquarium, and the Maritime & Seafood Industry Museum. For more than 40 years, the Biloxi Tour Train has treated thousands of visitors to a historical journey through one of the oldest towns in America.
Armed Forces Museum at Camp Shelby serves as the military history museum for Mississippi. Culture attractions in the area include the Walter Anderson Museum of Art at Ocean Springs
The beaches along the Gulf Coast rank along the top 10 in the nation, and numerous hotels, resorts and casino resorts offer great vacation packages.
