USA PORTS OF CALL – Little Rock, Arkansas

Ports of Call - USA - Arkansas - Little Rock

Cruisers often travel to Arkansas for its civil war history and for its Civil War sites. Over 750 military engagements were recorded in Arkansas and all major encounters have been preserved along the Arkansas Civil War Heritage Trail as memorials, state parks and a battlefield.

On the banks of the Arkansas River, Arkansas's capital city, Little Rock, an historic city with lovely neighborhoods, fine museums and scenic parks and a port of call for Majestic America Line riverboats, is home to the Clinton legacy.

The Clinton Presidential Center and Park anchor the historic River Market District downtown. There are tours of Bill Clinton's Little Rock and Presidential tours which include travel to President Clinton's birthplace and boyhood homes in Hope and Hot Springs.

Historic Arkansas Museum, Old State House, Arkansas Arts Center, Decorative Arts Museum, Museum of Discovery, Aerospace Education Center/IMAX Theatre, Central High School National Historic Site and Museum Visitors Center, and Little Rock Zoo are important visitor attractions.

Across the river, North Little Rock offers Burn's Park, one of the USA's larger municipal parks; Wild River Country, a water theme park; and the Old Mill, which appeared in the opening sequences of "Gone With the Wind."

Near Little Rock, Pinnacle Mountain State Park is dedicated to environmental education, recreation and preservation, is easily identified by its namesake, a conical shaped peak.
